AHA and BHA are powerful exfoliating ingredients. When used correctly, they can completely transform your skin: smoother texture, clearer pores, brighter tone. But when overused? They can disrupt your barrier and cause irritation.
So let’s break it down in a way that actually makes sense.
AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid.
BHA stands for beta hydroxy acid.
Both are chemical exfoliants, which means they dissolve dead skin cells instead of physically scrubbing them away.
Here’s the difference:
AHAs (like glycolic or lactic acid) work on the surface of the skin. They improve texture, dullness, and fine lines.
