We have a lot to cover in Part 2, so let's not waste any time...
Wear Sunscreen
This is a year-round tip, and there are plenty of moisturizers that you can use that also have SPF protection, as well as regular skincare products that have ingredients that include natural SPF protection. If you walk out that door, make sure you are protected for any exposed skin, and by all means, wear a hat!
Use a Humidifier
Just like we recommend for colder climates, a humidifier can do wonders to keep your skin hydrated in a dry climate. Always make sure you are using clean water and clean the unit per the manufacturer’s directions. As your favorite essential oil if you like for an extra boost. Personally, I like to use lavender to help me sleep at night.
Avoid Over-Exfoliating
It seems like every commercial you see these days is telling you that you need to exfoliate your skin. Some people mistake this to think that you need to exfoliate every day, especially if they have dry skin, and you will do far more harm then help. Once a week will do the job. While exfoliation is beneficial, doing it too much will strip the skin of your natural oils, actually doing the complete opposite of what you need in a dryer climate.
Use Serums
Serums are like miracle potions for dry skin. They are packed with all the goodies you need to keep your skin moisturized and protected, like glycerin and hyaluronic acid, but they are not as heavy as moisturizers. Many serums also offer anti-aging skincare benefits. They can on the more expensive side of skincare products, but they are worth it.
Use Hand Cream
I literally just had this conversation with my brother, who recently had surgery and a cast on his hand for a month. When the cast came off, his hand was as dry as a stick and instantly looked every year of its age and then some. I recommended a good hand cream to him and within two weeks, his hand looked like it had before. Your hands can get brutalized in dryer climates, to the point they look far older than your age, if they are not properly hydrated. I keep a hand cream by my sinks and every time I wash my hands, the lotion goes right back on.
Try Overnight Masks
You are going to have to learn to sleep on your back, but wearing a mask to bed at night is a great way to rejuvenate your facial skin overnight. While you are sleeping, all those wonderful moisturizing ingredients are absorbed into your skin. You will wake up refreshed, and so will your skin.
